Short Growing Season

The last frost in the spring was June 26th, and the first frost in the fall was August 25th. In other words, my frost-free growing season was a scant two months this year. Not that it mattered much. Critters (ground squirrels, birds) ate almost every plant I tried to grow in my garden.

Montana Traffic Jam

I took these pictures just north of West Yellowstone back in the spring. These are two separate herds just a couple miles apart. They are saying goodbye to their winter grounds (near town) and heading for their summer pasture (in Yellowstone Park).

Off Season

It seems that I have taken an entire season off from blogging. This also corresponds with the off season for the dogs. This year it got hot and stayed hot through the summer, setting record highs during the month of July. We recorded 101F on our thermometer, and this is an area where highs are normally in the 70s throughout the summer. We also had many days in the 90s in both June and early August. Forest fires have been very bad in Idaho and Montana. The closest one to us was 15 miles away. Luckily, our little valley has been relatively smoke free, considering.

I hope to be back to regular blogging now, so stay tuned.
